Today I want to take you to discover a magical place: the Fulgor Cinema.
As you know, Rimini is the city where director Federico Fellini was born.
His iconic phrase is: Everything is imagined.
Why do I mention this?
Because the place where everything began is precisely the Fulgor Cinema.
Let’s start with the basics:
Where is it located?
It’s on Corso d’Augusto.
If you’re staying, as I hope, in Marina Centro, it’s an easy walk along the port canal to the Tiberius Bridge.
But what’s the history of this cinema, and why is it so important to Rimini?
The Fulgor Cinema is inside an 18th-century building owned by the historic Valloni family.
It was founded in 1920 and was the only cinema in the city at the time.
In the 1920s and ’30s, it became a point of reference for movie lovers in Rimini, showing quality and auteur films.
During those years, a young Federico Fellini would often go there.
He later recalled watching Maciste in Hell sitting on his father’s lap.
He was captivated by the images on the big screen.
Isn’t that fascinating? Let’s continue our journey.
Fellini paid tribute to the cinema in a scene in Amarcord, recreating it with all its retro charm.
If you’ve seen the film, standing at the entrance will feel like déjà vu.
That’s the power of cinema and images.
What a show.
Sorry, I get excited—but as someone from Rimini, I’m truly proud of this place.
Today the Fulgor has been renovated and reopened.
The cinema has been transformed into a top-tier cultural venue.
The restoration was entrusted to set designer Dante Ferretti, a close friend and collaborator of Fellini, who designed the Fulgor with a look inspired by 1930s American films.
It’s nothing like today’s generic blacked-out theaters.
Its location is central, just a few steps from the Tiberius Bridge, Galli Theatre, and Castel Sismondo.
Thanks to its high-tech upgrade, the Fulgor can now show movies in HD and 3D.
But the Fulgor isn’t just a cinema.
In collaboration with the Federico Fellini Museum, it’s become a hub for cinema and culture lovers.
The second and third floors host exhibition spaces with Fellini’s drawings and all his films.
You can also visit the museum, just a few steps away.
The Fulgor organizes guided tours for groups of 15 or more.
These include the cinema’s history, behind-the-scenes film production secrets, a movie screening, and a visit to the Fellini Museum.
Cost: €7 per person.
The Fulgor is a must-see for anyone who loves cinema and culture.
If you want to dive deeper into Fellini’s story, you absolutely have to visit.
Enjoy a movie in this timeless space.
